Introduction

Howling Frog Wines' inaugural vintage, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, features hand-selected fruit from our family vines in the renowned Coonawarra region. This limited-edition release built our reputation for creating outstanding wines and has inspired future vintages.

Tasting Notes

This classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon showcases aromas of dried tobacco, tomato leaf, and dark cassis, complemented by savoury spices. Hints of menthol and mint add a refreshing complexity. Aged in mature oak barriques, the wine has developed subtle notes of leather and tanned hide, creating a harmonious balance with the generous palate weight and softening velvety tannins. The finish is moderate yet persistent, leaving a lasting impression.

2020 Vintage Characteristics 

Great winter rainfall and a full soil profile saw a strong start to the growing season; however, a cooler spring led to inconsistent flowering and fruit set, resulting in smaller yields than typical across the Coonawarra. Coonawarra was fortunate to avoid the impact of the 2019/2020 summer fires and was spared the devastation of smoke taint observed in many other regions across Australia.

Mild to warm daytime temperatures and cool nights provided ideal ripening conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, producing small berries with intense concentration and finely balanced tannins.
